JONATHaN BISHOP
HEAD COACH - VARSITY
HEAD OF PROGRAM OPERATIONS
Jonathan Bishop serves as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Molalla High School, where he played a lead role with the program in 2024. Under his leadership, the 2025 team delivered the most successful season in school history, earning 21 wins and securing a Top 8 finish in the state of Oregon. His coaching philosophy centers on discipline, accountability, and the holistic development of every athlete - on and off the field. Jonathan is committed to building a culture rooted in hard work, character, and team cohesion, reflecting Molalla’s core athletic mission.

Community Builder & Youth Mentor
Beyond the diamond, Jonathan is an active community advocate dedicated to youth development and wellness. He has contributed to inclusive community programs, recreational initiatives, and mentorship efforts that support students of all ages and abilities. His work emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
Coaching Background
With 15+ years of coaching experience across collegiate, high school, and youth levels, Jonathan brings a deep understanding of long-term player development and program-building. His coaching background includes roles in football, basketball, and baseball, with a strong focus on fundamentals, mental preparation, sportsmanship, and year-round development.

Athletic Background
A former NCAA multi-sport student-athlete, Jonathan played football and baseball at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He was a three-sport captain and earned three consecutive years as a three-sport letter man in high school, demonstrating the discipline and competitive drive he now instills in his players.

jeremy joseph
ASSISTANT COACH - VARSITY
PROGRAM OPERATIONS
Jeremy Joseph is a teacher at Molalla High School, and will serve as an assistant baseball coach this season. He is also the Program Director for Molalla Youth Sports, where he works to support youth development and strengthen the local sports community.

Jeremy has a strong passion for working with young people and giving back to the Molalla community he calls home.
​
He is married to his wife, Jenni, and they have three children - Noah, Boaz, and Elin. He lives, works, and proudly raises his family in Molalla.

PHIL HANSEN
ASSISTANT COACH - VARSITY
OUTFIELD
Phil is a lifelong member of the Molalla baseball community, having played baseball at Molalla High School and dedicating his career to developing young athletes both on and off the field. With over 25 years of youth coaching experience and more than a decade coaching at Molalla High School, Phil’s passion lies in teaching the game the right way - with a focus on fundamentals, confidence, and character.

In addition to coaching, Phil is a middle school math teacher at Molalla River Middle School, where he works daily with student-athletes during some of their most formative years. This dual role allows him to understand the whole athlete, not just the player - supporting growth in discipline, accountability, resilience, and mindset.
​
Phil’s coaching philosophy centers on long-term athlete development, positive leadership, and creating an environment where athletes feel supported, challenged, and motivated to reach their potential. He believes sports are one of the most powerful tools to teach life skills, build self-belief, and shape young people into confident, capable adults.

Whether on the field or in the classroom, Phil’s mission is simple: to help young people grow, learn, and succeed—through baseball and beyond.

Scott Baton serves as an assistant coach and is a dedicated behind-the-scenes force within the Molalla baseball program. He takes great pride in caring for the field and facilities - whether that means mowing the grass, watering the field, painting on-deck circles, or making sure the environment is something players and fans can proudly call home.
Scott’s commitment goes beyond game day. His attention to detail and willingness to put in the extra work help create a space where athletes can focus, grow, and compete with confidence. He understands that a strong program is built not only through coaching, but through consistency, pride, and community support.

Outside of baseball, Scott enjoys grilling the best hot dogs in town and spending his time supporting the youth of Molalla. His passion for service, community, and the game makes him an invaluable part of the program.

John Davis

CATCHING COACH
Since I was 5 years old, I have been playing Baseball. The crack of the bat and
hitting the ball far drew me early.
I played baseball T-ball through Majors at Tigard Little league and played High School Baseball at Tigard High School. After High School I began coaching for Tigard Babe Ruth at the 13-18 year old levels for about 6 years.
Then, I began my career as a semi-truck driver for 27 years, working for Conway Freight and Kahut Trash Services, driving over 1.5 million miles without any citations or accidents.
Meanwhile coaching baseball in various levels of the game. I have coached for the Tigard Babe Ruth association for 6 years, adult league baseball/semi pro for 7 years, High School for 1 year, and Junior Baseball of Oregon for 18 years. I have coached at the Minor, Junior, and Senior divisions in National, American, and Federal levels.
I am married and have 2 adult boys.
I am semi retired, working for my sons as a Direct service worker.
I have never stopped learning the game. I am always trying to make myself a better coach and a person. I am the President of Club Everyone, Me and U, a non-profit helping disabled adults throughout the Portland Metro Area for the last 6 years.
This will be my first season with Molalla Baseball.
Greg Lord
ADVISOR TO THE PROGRAM
MIDDLE INFIELD SPECIALIST
Greg Lord is a pillar of Oregon baseball and one of the most experienced and respected coaches to ever step on the field. Now entering his 56th year in the game, Coach Lord’s career spans more than five decades of leadership, teaching, and championship-level baseball.
He has spent 11 years coaching at the collegiate level and 44 years in high school baseball, including 13 seasons as a head coach, building programs focused not only on winning, but on developing young men of character, discipline, and confidence.
Throughout his career, Coach Lord has coached in three OSAA 6A State Championship games, including leading his team to a State Championship as Head Coach in 2012. That same year, he was honored as the State of Oregon Coach of the Year, a recognition that reflects both his success on the field and the respect he has earned across the baseball community.
In addition, he has been named Three Rivers League Coach of the Year three times and has been selected twice as the Head Coach for the State-Metro Baseball Series, an honor reserved for the most respected leaders in the game.
Coach Lord’s coaching philosophy and approach have been shaped by some of the most influential minds in baseball, including:
Ad Rutschman (Linfield College), Mel Krause (University of Oregon), Jerry Gatto (Lewis & Clark College), Royce McDaniels (Lakeridge High School), and Auggie Gaudio (University of Texas).
More than his accolades, Coach Lord is known for his commitment to players, his deep knowledge of the game, and his ability to build winning cultures that last far beyond the final out.

Matt Shultz
ANALYSIS & MDC PRESIDENT
Matt grew up here in Molalla and has been involved in sports his entire life, developing a deep passion for athletics, teamwork, and youth development from an early age. For many years, he has dedicated his time to coaching at the youth level, earning a reputation not only for his knowledge of the game, but for the genuine care he shows every athlete he works with. His commitment to serving kids and families in the community was recognized when he was named MYS Volunteer of the Year.

Matt currently serves as the President of the Diamond Club and also as the MHS baseball program’s Baseball Analysis Manager, where he uses his talents to help guide the vision, structure, and long-term growth of the baseball program. He is deeply invested in building a positive, competitive, and character-driven culture that develops players both on and off the field.

Above all, Matt loves his family, loves working with kids, and is passionate about making a lasting difference in the Molalla community through sports, mentorship, and leadership.
